PROJECT BRIEF
To promote AVL’s “ADAS” autonomous driving system, we created this 3D projection mapping that was shown at The International Vienna Motor Symposium 2019 – an annual event that showcases the best in the automotive industry.
OUR APPROACH
We worked together with 4events, who were responsible for the technical execution of the project, to ensure that the positioning of the projectors, as well as the resolution of the projected content was correct. Using a identical virtual 3D model of the 3D-printed car used at the event, we were able to make exact measurements and ensure that small, fine details, such as lines on the doors and wheels of the car, aligned exactly with the real-life model of the car. This allowed the whole car to act as a canvas for the projection mapping, and we were able to control every single detail of the car’s surface using a UV-map animation mapping technique.
Stylistically, the projection mapping uses cool, blueish colors and a technical, grid-like look, fitting the corporate design of AVL, additional interface elements give a futuristic feel to the whole animation.
TO SUM IT UP
This project was accompanied by live action-film production. The ADAS film, shot at the Zala Zone automotive testing track in Zalaegerszeg, Hungary, was played simultaniously on the screens behind the projection mapping. The projection mapping and live action-film were created to function independently both online as individual pieces, as well as at exhibitions such as the Vienna Motor Symposium.
